One Week Down

Not much new to report over here, just counting down the days until the FET.  I've been on BCPs for a week now, and have had weird cramping and spotting every day.  I've also had headaches and feel pretty tired all of the time.  My period was still pretty heavy when I started them, which makes me wonder if starting BCPs and interrupting flow is actually good for you.  Oh well, too late now!

Have been holing up at home a lot lately.  It's been bitterly cold in NYC, and it's difficult to motivate to leave the apartment much.  We did have a lovely weekend in Upstate NY, where H and I have a little house that we bought in the early days of our relationship.  It's been a little neglected this last year, so one of my resolutions is to spend some more time up there this year.  I wish we could sell it, honestly, but in this market that would be a bad idea.  Anyhow, we spent the weekend toasting our toes by the fire, cooking, and watching football.  Was really lovely, and a nice change of pace from the city.

I am trying to set a few goals for myself in the next few weeks to help pass the time and also to get some things accomplished.  The most important one is to start exercising again.  That's really fallen off since my vacation - I came back with a slight cold and jetlag and just didn't feel like working out.  But right after I publish this post I am getting into my gear and heading to the gym for a run!

I also want to get a yoga video/DVD to do at home.  Something for an intermediate level, that has a good mixture of challenging poses and relaxing poses.  Does anyone have any recommendations?

  1. I've been on BCPs for a little more than a week now too and have been crampy and have had sore BBs. I thought they were supposed to make cramps better not cause them? Very cold here too so your weekend of cooking by the fire sounds very nice!

  2. I'm with you newbie, I've been so lazy about working out, I'm getting bigger by the minute, I don't have much motivation but I need to get it back somehow and ASAP. I posted a reply to you but I guess you didn't get a notification, that's lame, no point of having the feature if you have to go back and check :-(

  3. Hi Newbie -
Sorry you are not feeling great, but hopefully the exercise will help.
I really like Shiva Rea - I would look her up on amazon and read the reviews and find one that looks like it would be a good fit for you.
I hope the time flies by!

  4. Your house sounds like a fantastic little hideway. Don't get rid of it because when you do have a family (soon soon!) it will be great to get away. I am so envious of all these NYC people it is so on my lists of places to visit.

I hope you had a good session at the gym. Can't help you out on the yoga I am strictly beginner :)

  5. I have Rodney Yee's Power Yoga for something more fast paced and challenging.

I just bought Shiva Rea's Daily Energy Vinyassa Flow. I like this one because you can mix up the routines so I don't get as bored - some are more flowy and some more relaxing.

I also just got Seane Corn Detox Flow Yoga which I love. There are two different sessions, one is shorter and more gentle - which I will be doing during my post FET wait. The longer session is also challenging but relaxing. Her talk about detox gets a little cheesy, but you can select to just have instructions without the granola.

  6. I was so good about exercising and once IVF3 started I was told no more and have not since!! Lately I have begun just walking Roxie around the block, but I can definitely tell a difference! If they let you continue, do it!
Sounds like the house away was a good investment and a nice way to get away without spending a lot of money :)

  7. On the DVD I like Bryan Kest but it's power yoga, you get a great workout but not so sure if it would be good when pregnant.

  8. Exercise is always a great thing to pass time. I was just cleared to start doing light exercising again. I really tried not to exercise too much before FET, mostly walking. Don't worry about the BCP's you will have an ultrasound done to make sure your lining is ready for transfer. Hope you start feeling better. I have to say though the Lupron gives lots of headaches and when you add the hormones you already feel sick and pregnant. It's all worth it but the best is yet to come.

  9. Each week is one week closer! I agree with justagirl-Krista. Lupron can be tough on your body...hang in there.

  11. Your cottage sounds lovely. If you can afford to keep it -- you should. As someone mentioned earlier, it would be such a fun place to go to with kids.
Good to hear that you are getting back to exercising though I can only imagine the will power it takes if its cold outside. I think light exercise is fine during IVF (eg walking, yoga). In fact they say its good to move around since its gets blood flowing to the uterus.

  12. I'm not a fan of bcps either. I tried them for an entire year when I was 24, and no more after that, well, except for ART cycles. I tried a few kinds, but all I ended up with was some extra weight, spotting all the time and a low sex drive. So not worth it! Hope this is the last time you ever have to take them!

Good luck with yoga. I've tried it, but I had a tendency to get impressed with myself and over do it. Yes, you can over do anything ; )
