Regroup with Dr. S

I just had my regroup with Dr. S.  Here's a quick summary of what we discussed:
1) I told him that I was inclined to go to FET with 2 normals, and asked if he agreed with that approach.  He did, although he said it would be "nice" to have more embryos.  But he also said that this might work and save us having to do another retrieval so we should try.
2) I asked him how many he thought we should transfer.  He said definitely transfer both - he thinks there is a much higher risk that I won't get pregnant at all given my history than me having multiples.  This was kind of sobering to hear, but not surprising.  Given how strongly he felt about this I think I will transfer both and hope for the best.
3) I asked him about BCP or no BCP and he said it doesn't matter, it's just for scheduling purposes.  I think I will do BCP because the scheduling is kind of a hassle.
4) Lastly, I asked him what he thought our chances of success were.  He said this was really difficult, because I was so "off the charts" (meaning I had an off the charts bad history with my prior two IVF cycles).   Acknowledging that it was a total shot in the dark guess, he gave me a 35% chance of success. Not great, but who the hell knows - it could be an 11% chance, it could be 50%.  Doesn't change anything in terms of the approach.

Following the call, I'm feeling less confident and much more nervous.  I was riding high after getting my results, but this brought me back down to earth.  I have to remember there's still a much higher chance that this won't work than the other way around.

I can only hope and pray for a miracle.  Man, this is going to be a long 2 months!  I'm just glad I have some good company (all of you wonderful ladies) to keep me sane along the way.  Don't you go anywhere peoples, I need ya!

  1. Not going anywhere newbie!! It's tough to get a reality check like that but it's all just numbers and statistics. You just have to try and move forward without thinking too much about it. What will be will be (now...if i could just get myself to accept that - ha!). Hoping for the best for you!

  2. Thanks for the update, even though it wasn't everything that you wanted to hear. I think it's good that Dr. S was frank with you, but I do think that your chances are pretty good at CCRM. I can't wait to follow your FET journey!

  3. At least he has been honest with you this journey. Don't focus on the %, just that you have a chance! There is always a chance and you know these embabies are normal so it's even better :). Hang in there!!

  4. I feel the same way every time I hang up with him, even though I'm not 100% sure which Dr. S you are referring to, but it definitely sounds like my Dr. S :-) I do hope that you fall into the right side of the statistics, no matter what those numbers are, this HAS to work.

Bummer on missing each other! But it's OK, it would be awesome if we both get pregnant in February, gosh, those words sound like music.. I wish you all the luck in the world!

  5. With two normals your chances are very good, and I agree with Miracle4us that don't focus on the %, just stay positive. There have been a lot of BFPs recently, so hopefully you will be one more :-)

  6. I believe the doctors estimate conservatively when they are asked to give a number. Dr. Sur gave me a 25% chance for success and I hit 12 weeks tomorrow! 35% chance with 2 normals is really good. Start believing that you could actually land on the RIGHT side of the statistics for a change.

  7. We are going to miss each other, I'm just a week behind you! Bummer! And of course you don't want to take an extra week of BCP ;-)

  8. It's hard not to focus on the % they give you but 2 normals is great! At least you will go into the transfer knowing that you put in 2 normal embryos and so what if you only got 2. Sure it's nice to have more, I may have had more eggs but I only ended up with 2 as well. February will be here be fore you know it. So very excited to follow you along!

  9. Newbie...Dr. S is famous for downplaying anyone's certain success. But rightly so. He doesn't want to over hype you as well. Its all such a crap shoot...sorry. Feeling good about this for you. Take care.

  10. We'll be here. I think taking BCP is the right choice, the last thing you want is a wonky cycle messing everything up.

  11. Well, Dr. Sur_ told me that our chance of success would be about 50% if we had 1 normal, so the way I see it, you have 2 normals which would equal 100%, right? :) I know, I know, but still, I think you are in a good place to move forward with a FET, transfer 2 and have good reason to be hopeful. Keeping my fingers crossed for you!

  12. The only time I had success was when we transferred two so I personally think it is a wise choice. Because if only one takes how do you know that it would have been in transfer one or two? That is the way I look at it. I think the BCP's are a good idea if you have a crazy cycle but I personally don't like what they do to my body. I don't know if you already are but I still think the circle and bloom is fantastic. It just gets your head in the right space. Remember I only had two from my last hideous cycle so it can actually work so my fingers are crossed that it will for you xxxx
