Update

I finally spoke to a nurse at C.CRM, I called twice and no one was picking up so I had to leave a message.  The nurse told me to just lie down the rest of the day, drink lots of fluids and monitor the situation.  She said it was too early to do an ultrasound, and since I just did bloodwork a couple of days ago that it didn't make sense to redo it just yet.  If things get worse (if I start seeing clots or cramps get more severe), I'm to call them again, but that's about it.

She said she thought my body may just be having a reaction to the progesterone, which is causing the bleeding and even the cramping.  If I was only bleeding or only cramping, I think I would feel okay.  But having both at the same time is incredibly scary.  Also, I honestly think the nurse was partially just saying that about the progesterone so I don't freak out too badly, because she also said that I didn't need to get the Rhogam shot because of my blood type.  You only do the Rhogam shot when you're about to miscarry, so she clearly was thinking about that as a potential outcome.  She also made a veiled comment to the effect that it didn't seem like an imminent miscarriage, but that we might get the bad news at the u/s next week.

I feel no more at ease than before.  I'm so, so scared of this getting worse - or perhaps worse yet, having this get better for a time only to find that at our ultrasound something went terribly wrong.

Why did this have to happen??  Everything seemed to be going so well and now I'm horribly afraid it's all going to be snatched away.  There's nothing I can do though, except wait.  Thank you all for the words of concern, I wish I had something to reassure you and myself, but there's nothing.

I am in hell right now.

  1. OMG - you must be a mess! I am so sorry. I hate that there is nothing left to do but lie in panic! When is your first ultrasound? I cannot remember for the life of me whose blog it was that I read (also CCRM) who had bleeding and freaked out and everything ended up just fine, poor girl was in the exact same situation and I wanted to give your her blog to give you a little peace of mind but I can't remember which it was. She must be about 10 weeks by now though and all is great. I will let you know if it comes to me. Keeping everything crossed for you. Hang in there...

  2. Ugh. I'm sorry she couldn't be more reassuring. I'm hoping the bleeding and cramping stop as mysteriously as they started. and stay stopped. FWIW, i think the bleeding itself will cause cramping, but i know that the combo must have you going out of your mind. i'm so sorry that you're in this hell. maybe you could bloods drawn on friday just for reassurance? i'm sending ALL of my positive thoughts your way.

  3. one other thought - your betas were so high...seems like definitely twins...I think bleeding is more common with twins, even when all is going fine...also - if one of them didn't stick it could cause bleeding and you'd still have the other one...i'm hoping that's not it, of course. just wishing this weren't happening for you at all, actually : (

  4. I can only imagine newbie, I wish she would have been more reassuring and helpful. I have no words for you except that it really can be OK, there is a lot of women that go through this and they are fine at the end. I'm so sorry, your betas are amazingly strong, this has to be some reaction to the progesterone or some other thing rather than the embryos. My friend overseas who conceived naturally had bleeding on and off for about 3 weeks and her and the baby are totally fine now. I know there is really nothing I can tell you to make you feel better, rest and be sure I'm praying for you and your little twins over here. Big, huge hugs!! xoxo

  6. Oh Newbie, I'm so sorry you are going through this. From others I follow (here & on message boards) this happens from time to time with all kinds of outcomes (I wish I could say they were all positive, but many WERE positive). Your nurse was consistent with her answer as I have heard before, rest, hydrate, progesterone can irritate/cause bleeding, especially vaginal progesterone. Mo also poses a couple of possible scenarios I've heard of as well... twin pregnancies tend to have more bleeding early on or one twin may be experiencing a problem :( I wish there were answers with certainty for you... hang in there. Praying for you!!

  7. Oh Newbie I'm sorry! Unfortunately there really isn't anything you can do but wait it out because it's just so early. Stay off your feet and under NO circumstances go to the ER! You DO NOT want to be subjected to what they do if you come in with bleeding while pregnant.

Sending you lots of love, hugs and prayers and hoping the bleeding and cramping stop SOON!!!

  9. I am sorry this is happening but please just rest, drink and feet up. Bleeding, red, brown, a mix, is totally normal in the in the 1st trimester for soooo many women! It happened to me for days on and off between week 6-8 and freaked me out too, but it was okay. Watch a funny movie to try to calm your mind. xo

  11. I'm so sorry that this is happening and stressing you out. I wish I had more words of wisdom to offer, but it seems covered at the moment - rest and hydrate. I will be thinking of you, hoping it clears up and all is well. Hang in there.

  12. Oh no, Newbie! I have been off-line all day and just saw your update and previous post - I really really hope that this is just some weird episode that resolves itself very quickly. I know I would be freaking out too in this situation, though there are lots of woman who have bleeding and end up with healthy pregnancies and babies - really hoping this will happen for you. Sending Big prayers your way -

  13. I had bleeding at exactly 5w2d. It wasn't spotting either it was bright red blood and a lot. When I went in for the u/s I told my local RE about the bleeding and he couldn't find any cause and said it's probably from the progesterone suppositories. So when you go into your u/s be sure to tell them about the bleeding so they can look for any causes. Rest and drink lots of water. I just pounded the water and it really helped with the cramping. Hope all goes well! I will be watching.

  16. It *can* be totally harmless. With my daughter, I had a ton of bleeding. I had bright red blood before my beta, along with cramping. I then had a haemorrhage (seriously, I could feel the blood coming out) at 5 1/2 weeks, again with cramps. Was convinced I'd lost the baby, but it was 'just' a sub-chorionic haemorrhage. The doctor did give me a 50/50 of miscarrying, but all was well. While I never had a big bleed again, I did spot bright red and brown blood for most of the first trimester.

I have no idea if the two can be connected, but my daughter also had crazy-high beta numbers.

Fingers crossed that your baby is just as safe as mine was.
